The Wooden Power Source

I needed a power source for up to 12 Volts that could give over 6 A. Small and light it had to be also so it would be transportable. Those features don't come cheap, so I finally decided to build my own. And here it is!

Here is a picture with a credit card as a reference for the size of it.

The box is made of wood (it's good to have a father who is a retired carpender ;-). On the backside the voltage regulator and the cooling heat sink are attached.

On the side a fan is mounted to cool the box inside by blowing in air. And on the top there are holes drilled to lead out the heat.

A close up of the fan. Yes it is from an old Atari computer! ;-) The Screws are temporary and of the wrong kind - fixed now!

Behind the front, the backside of the instruments can be seen and also the interior of the box where a Hyperion 12 V power source is mounted.

The Hyperion is a nice power source, small and not producing to much heat. See: http://www.hyperion.se for more info on them.

The box interior from above, you can see that the Hyperion power source is mounted on wooden studs and that there is quite much air around to keep everything cool enough.

None of the wiring is made when the pictures where taken, but that is fixed now and it works fine. The schematics, component list etc is found here: http://www.slotside.com/tt/power.html
