#6 1997 Ford Valvoline modelracing Nascar

Below you can follow the construction of the car of Anders Lattermann as it was built for a race in Germany earlier this year, the car also participated in the SSC Nascar Hook Up 2002 season and made the second place after seven races.

First you buy the slotracing chassi (for this project a Sakatsu) and a 1:24 plastic kit Nascar
model. Then you assemble the interior and the roll cage on the model.

Then you glue on the bumper on the body and start to cut away stuff from the interior and
roll cage that is not visible through the windows. You also must make a hole for the electric
motor that sits in the back.

Then you must make a box in plastic card that covers the hole made from the motor. On the
last picture here you see a glimpse of what the car will look like once it is ready.

Once the plastic work is done, you need to start to paint and get a driver model installed.

The interior is ready. Now it’s time to paint the body and assemble everything.

And here the car is ready for the track in Germany shining new. It made the 14th place in the race in Germany and the second place in the series here in Sweden. In total it has been on the track for more than 10 hours of racing time. It still runs good but has some battle scares as you can see on the following pictures:

Still looks quite good from some distance but a closer look reveals some paint scratched off due to gliding upside down after crashes (the front grille got painted after the race in Germany). If you know your slotracing you will notice that this track seams to miss the electrical braid, that is correct, it isn't mounted yet - but that is another project ;-)

The whole rear bumper has been broken off and reglued. It also broke in the middle.

The front bumper has held together okey but have gotten some "race weathering". It was heavily reinforced when built since I thought it would get some hard hits. I hadn't really calculated that the rear bumper should get so much punishment so it wasn't reinforced so much so that's a lesson for next time. The rear spoiler (wing) has also gotten it's smashes and have been reglued several times. On the interior the fire extingisher, the gear shift and the driver figure have gotten loose during race after crashes! The driver figure was actually laying upside down but still finished 3d in that race, now when will we see that in real 1:1 Nascar racing ;-)
