In Europe, countries like
Sweden, Holland, Belgium and especially Germany modelracing has become
rather big. Modelracing is when you take a plastic 1:25 or 1:24 kit and put
it on a slotracing chassis. It has been done before in the sixties, but not
with models that are impossible to differentiate from a static model. The modern
modelracing cars often have photoetch parts, full interior etc and due to newly
developed motors and chassis, they drive really well and competion is fierce.
Often both with points for driving and also concourse so you need to build both
for speed and for look.
Here are some pictures

The cars, Nascars in this case, but there are classes
basically for all types of cars. The #40 Coors built by SSC member Torbjörn
Lundkvist has a beatifully made updated nose, all done in the original
plastic and with a file as the only tool, so that it is a 2003 version.

Here is a Nascar with photoetched dashboard.
Built by SSC member Anders Lattermann, came forth place in the biggest Nascar
race in Germany with 29 starting people.

Two darkside Nascars built by Anders, all chrome removed, scratchbuilt interior
etc
